Inspired by his childhood memories and his passion for drawing, this exhibition offers an intimate and powerful look at the quest for creativity and the desire to blur the lines between figurative and abstract.
With this series of paintings created in his studio over the last two years, Yakes shares with the public a little-known facet of his work. He draws his inspiration from his Spanish origins, in particular his nickname "Granuja", given to him by his grandfather, which translates into French as "Little rascal".
A multi-disciplinary artist (painting, tattooing and music), his work on this exhibition marks a milestone in his visual language. Coming from a figurative universe strongly marked by graffiti, he lets his inspiration evolve towards the abstract.
Now 32, Yakes, who was born and lives in Paris, marks a further step with this first solo show in his already rich artistic career of projects and collaborations.
Surrounded by Anna Dimitrova, renowned gallerist and founder of Adda Gallery, and Sébastien Lis, curator of the Urban Art Crew collective, "Granuja" is full of emotion and surprises.
